Ten semi-permanent military settlements on the western edge of the Shattered Plains — each highprince's camp a small city of soldiers, merchants, and political maneuvering.
What started as military camps became cities. Six years of war against the Parshendi turned the warcamps into permanent settlements with populations rivaling some Alethi towns. Each highprince maintains their own camp — their own soldiers, their own economy, their own political court — and the ten camps together form a sprawling, contentious urban landscape on the edge of the chasms. The warcamps are where Kaladin rebuilt himself as a bridgeman, where Shallan arrived pursuing her scholarly mission, and where Dalinar tried to unite the highprinces against a threat they refused to see. The politics here mirror Alethkar's worst tendencies — competition masquerading as cooperation, with Sadeas undermining Dalinar at every turn. The camps were largely abandoned after the discovery of Urithiru and the move to the tower city, but their impact on every major character's arc was foundational.
Stone barracks and wooden structures sprawl across the western plateau edge, divided into ten distinct sections by highprince. Market streets, taverns, training grounds, and dueling arenas fill the spaces between. Dalinar's camp is orderly and disciplined; Sadeas's is larger and rougher. The camps glow with gemstone light at night.
