Thaylenah is a nation built on trade. The Thaylen people are Roshar's premier merchants and sailors, their trade routes spanning the continent, their gemstone banking system underpinning international commerce. Their island position gives them natural defense, and their long eyebrows — a racial trait they're extremely proud of — mark them anywhere they go. Thaylen City became a pivotal battleground when Odium's forces — Fused, singers in warform, and a thunderclast animated from stone — attacked during the coalition's attempt to secure the Oathgate. Dalinar stood at the center of the battle and performed the impossible: he united the three Realms, summoning the Stormfather's perpendicularity to recharge every gemstone on the field. The Battle of Thaylen Field proved that the coalition could fight Odium's armies and win — and that Dalinar Kholin was something unprecedented.
A rocky island with steep cliffs and a natural harbor. Thaylen City cascades down terraced cliffs to the docks below. The Oathgate platform sits atop the highest tier. Warehouses, trading offices, and gemstone vaults line the harbor district. The Thaylen people are recognizable by their extraordinarily long white eyebrows, which they style elaborately.
