Kholinar

Location from The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

Ancient capital of Alethkar, seat of the Kholin dynasty — a walled fortress city that fell to the Fused and their Singer armies, its Oathgate corrupted by an Unmade.

Kholinar was the jewel of Alethkar — a city old enough that its walls have been reshaped by thousands of highstorms into something that looks grown rather than built. The palace housed generations of Kholin kings, its hallways hung with Soulcast tapestries and lit by gemstone chandeliers. The Oathgate platform, one of ten ancient transportation hubs, connected the city directly to Urithiru. When the Everstorm came, Kholinar fell from within. Queen Aesudan had been corrupted by the Unmade Ashertmarn, the Heart of the Revel, turning the palace into a nightmare of endless feasting while the city starved. Kaladin, Shallan, and Adolin's mission to retake the Oathgate failed — the platform was corrupted, the city lost. Now Kholinar is the Singer capital in Alethkar, its human population subjugated, its streets patrolled by Fused who remember ruling this land thousands of years ago.

Appearance

Massive stone walls shaped by centuries of crem deposits into organic curves. The palace sits at the city's heart, its domes and towers rising above tiered streets. The Oathgate platform dominates the eastern quarter. During the occupation, Singer banners replaced Kholin blue, and Fused patrol the skies overhead.
