A Vorin kingdom west of Alethkar, second in military power — Shallan's homeland, torn apart by civil war after its king was assassinated by Szeth.
Jah Keved was Alethkar's rival — a Vorin kingdom with its own Shardbearers, its own highprinces, and its own claim to military prestige. The Veden are culturally similar to the Alethi but consider themselves more refined, more scholarly, and less brutishly obsessed with warfare. This self-image took a blow when Szeth assassinated their king on Gavilar's orders, triggering a civil war that shattered the kingdom. Shallan grew up in rural Jah Keved, in a minor lighteyed house that was falling apart long before the civil war. Her father's debts, her mother's death, and the slow poison of secrets defined her childhood. The kingdom's collapse mirrors her family's — a structure that looked solid from the outside rotting from within. By the time of the True Desolation, Jah Keved is a fractured state, its armies scattered, its political structure in ruins, struggling to contribute to the coalition against Odium.
Rolling stone hills with more vegetation than eastern Roshar. Estates and manor houses dot the countryside, many damaged or burned from the civil war. The architecture is similar to Alethi but more ornate, with carved stone facades and stained-glass windows in the Vorin tradition. Vineyards grow in sheltered valleys.
