Aimia is a wound on the map. Something destroyed most of the island continent, and the survivors — the Sleepless (swarms of cremlings operating as hive-mind entities) and the Siah Aimians (humanoid beings whose bodies flow like liquid and regenerate from any injury) — guard what remains with lethal determination. Expeditions to Aimia tend not to return. The Sleepless protect a Dawnshard hidden on Aimia — one of the primordial Commands that predate the Shards of Adonalsium. Rysn's expedition to Aimia, guided and manipulated by the Sleepless, resulted in her bonding with the Dawnshard, making her one of the most cosmere-significant beings alive. Aimia's destruction may be connected to the misuse of a Dawnshard in the past — a warning about what these Commands can do when wielded without understanding.
Broken coastlines and shattered terrain suggest catastrophic destruction. The surviving islands are barren, wind-scoured, and deliberately unwelcoming. Strange formations of melted rock hint at weapons or forces beyond normal understanding. The few intact structures are ancient beyond reckoning, covered in glyphs that predate modern writing systems.
