Sylphrena

Character from The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

An ancient honorspren who bonded Kaladin and fights to keep him alive — playful as wind, fierce as a storm, and terrified of losing him to despair.

Syl speaks with the rapid enthusiasm of someone discovering the world for the first time — because in many ways she is. She lost her memories when she crossed into the Physical Realm to find Kaladin, and rebuilding herself alongside him created a bond that is part partnership, part mutual rescue. She is playful and curious, chasing leaves, making faces at people, and asking questions that sound naive but cut to the heart of things. When Kaladin is threatened, the playfulness vanishes and something ancient and fierce emerges — she is an honorspren, a daughter of the Stormfather, and she carries millennia of purpose in her small frame. She can transform into a Shardblade — Kaladin's spear or any weapon he needs — and this shapeshifting reflects her emotional state. When Kaladin breaks his oaths or sinks into despair, she begins to fade, and her terror of losing herself again is palpable. Their bond is the emotional core of the series.

Appearance

Appears as a tiny luminous woman about a handspan tall, trailing blue-white light like a windspren. Her features are delicate and expressive, her hair and dress rippling as though perpetually windblown. Can shift shape — sometimes appears as a ribbon of light, a leaf, or a tiny Shardspear. In the Physical Realm she glows softly; in Shadesmar she appears full-sized with blue-white skin. Her brightness dims when Kaladin's depression worsens.
