The Stormfather

Character from The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

The largest spren on Roshar and the cognitive shadow of Honor — a being of storms and grief who bonded Dalinar against his own judgment and learned to respect humanity again.

The Stormfather speaks in a voice like rolling thunder — declarative, imperious, and carrying the weight of epochs. He is arrogant because he has earned it: he is the highstorm itself, the vehicle by which Stormlight renews the world. But his arrogance masks grief — Honor is dead, shattered by Odium, and the Stormfather carries fragments of Honor's cognitive shadow within him. He resisted bonding Dalinar, considering humans oathbreakers who caused the Recreance and murdered their spren. Dalinar's refusal to let Odium take his pain changed the Stormfather's assessment of humanity. He is learning to be a partner rather than a god, though the lesson is slow and grudging. He can grant visions of Roshar's past — Honor's final messages to future Radiants. His relationship with Dalinar is contentious but genuine: two proud beings slowly teaching each other humility.

Appearance

Manifests as an enormous face in the stormwall of a highstorm — vast, craggy features made of lightning and cloud, eyes like twin suns. His face stretches across the entire sky, making even mountains seem small. In calmer moments, appears as a vague luminous presence or a rumbling voice from everywhere at once. In Shadesmar, his presence is felt as pressure and electricity rather than seen. When Dalinar channels his power, the sky itself seems to respond.
