Character from The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson
Alethi Highprince and Dalinar's chief political rival. Ruthless, cunning, and utterly pragmatic, he used bridgemen as expendable shields. Killed by Adolin in a moment of frustrated rage.
Highprince Torol Sadeas was one of the most powerful men in Alethkar and Dalinar Kholin's oldest rival. Once Gavilar's closest friend alongside Dalinar, Sadeas chose a different path after the king's assassination — one of ruthless political maneuvering and self-serving ambition. He genuinely believed he served Alethkar's interests, but his methods were unconscionable: using bridgemen as human shields to protect his advancing forces on the Shattered Plains, betraying Dalinar on the battlefield by withdrawing his army mid-engagement, and constantly scheming to undermine Kholin authority. Sadeas was brilliant at the political game, always several moves ahead, and he saw Dalinar's honorable aspirations as naive weakness that would destroy Alethkar. Their rivalry defined the politics of the warcamps until Adolin, unable to bear another cycle of Sadeas's treachery, stabbed him to death in a corridor. His murder became one of the most consequential acts in the war, haunting Adolin and destabilizing the already fragile alliance among the highprinces.
A thick-necked, stocky Alethi man with a blunt face and shrewd, calculating eyes. He wears his Shardplate with practiced authority and dresses in rich red and green — the Sadeas house colors. His smile is predatory, always suggesting he knows something you don't. He carries himself with the confident swagger of a man who has won wars through cunning rather than honor.
