Restares is the secret identity of Kalak, one of the ten Heralds of the Almighty. After breaking the Oathpact and abandoning Taln to eternal torture on Braize, Kalak assumed the identity of Restares and founded the Sons of Honor — an organization dedicated to returning the Heralds to power by triggering a new Desolation. The irony is staggering: Kalak, who broke because he could not endure more torture, created an organization to bring about the very catastrophe he fled. His motivations are tangled in millennia of guilt, madness, and self-preservation. He is terrified of returning to Braize and will do almost anything to avoid it. He eventually takes refuge in Lasting Integrity, the honorspren fortress in Shadesmar, hoping to hide from both sides of the conflict.
Appears as a distinguished older man with Alethi features, but his eyes carry an ancient, hunted quality. His composure is a brittle facade over deep terror. Carries himself with faded nobility.
