Character from The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson
Kaladin's childhood friend from Hearthstone who married a lighteyes. She represents the life Kaladin might have had and the rigid social divisions of Alethi society.
Laral grew up alongside Kaladin in Hearthstone, and as children there was an unspoken assumption they might one day marry — especially when Kaladin's father hoped to elevate the family's status. Instead, Laral married Roshone's son (and later Roshone himself after his son's death), cementing her place in the lighteyed social structure. When Kaladin returns to Hearthstone as a Radiant, their reunion is charged with the weight of paths not taken. Laral has adapted to her role as a citylord's wife, and while she is not unsympathetic, she represents the rigid caste system that shaped both their lives in different ways. She is a reminder that the world Kaladin fights to change has already claimed many of the people he knew.
Alethi lighteyed woman with refined features and the bearing of minor nobility. Her appearance reflects the comfortable life of a citylord's wife, a stark contrast to Kaladin's hardened soldier look.
