Character from The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson
Listener explorer and warform warrior, Venli's elder sister. Sought peace with humans but was corrupted by Stormform, losing herself to a Voidspren. Her death catalyzed Venli's redemption.
Eshonai was the first Listener to encounter humans in generations, serving as an explorer who mapped the edges of the Shattered Plains. Her fascination with the wider world and desire for peace set her apart from more cautious Listeners. When war with the Alethi consumed her people, she reluctantly adopted warform and became their battlefield general. Her tragedy is one of good intentions destroyed. Desperate to save her people from Alethi aggression, she agreed to test Stormform — a new form of power channeled through a Voidspren. The transformation overwhelmed her mind, replacing her desire for peace with rage and certainty. She led the summoning of the Everstorm, believing she was saving her people while actually enabling the return of Odium's forces. In her final moments of clarity, the real Eshonai fought against the Voidspren's control, but she fell during the Battle of Narak and drowned in a chasm flood. Her death haunts Venli, who had been the one to first bring Stormform to their people.
Tall, powerfully built Singer in warform with orange-red skin patterns and prominent carapace armor growing along her shoulders, arms, and legs. Her eyes glow red when in Stormform, and her once-curious expression becomes rigid and determined. Marbled black and red skin with the strong build of a warrior caste.
