Character from The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson
King of Alethkar and Gavilar's son. Insecure, paranoid, and desperate to live up to his father's legacy. Was on the verge of swearing the First Ideal of the Knights Radiant when Moash killed him.
Elhokar Kholin was born into an impossible legacy. Son of the legendary Gavilar, nephew of the mighty Dalinar, and king of a nation that respects strength above all else, Elhokar spent his reign trying desperately to prove he deserved the throne — and failing in his own eyes. He was paranoid, seeing assassination attempts everywhere (though some were real), politically clumsy, and prone to decisions that caused real harm, including the negligent imprisonment of Moash's grandparents. Yet Elhokar was not a bad man — he was a frightened one, acutely aware of his inadequacy and genuinely wanting to be better. His character arc was one of the most poignant in the series: slowly growing, learning humility, traveling to Kholinar to save his wife and son, and finally — in the midst of battle — beginning to speak the words of the First Ideal. 'Life before death. Strength before—' The sentence was never finished. Moash's spear took him mid-word, killing a man in the exact moment he was becoming what he'd always wanted to be.
A tall, handsome Alethi man who wears his crown and Shardplate with visible unease, as though they were borrowed. His face is sharp-featured with the Kholin jawline, but his eyes dart nervously and his bearing lacks the commanding presence of his father Gavilar or uncle Dalinar. He tries to project authority but often appears anxious and over-compensating. His Shardplate gleams but never quite looks like it fits him.
