Character from The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson
Alethi brightlord who stole Kaladin's Shardblade and murdered his squad to cover it up. Projected an image of perfect honor while secretly serving the Sons of Honor. The hypocrisy that shattered Kaladin's faith.
Meridas Amaram was everything an Alethi soldier was supposed to be — or so he seemed. A brightlord of impeccable reputation, he was held up as the ideal of Alethi honor, a man Dalinar himself trusted as a paragon. But when the young spearman Kaladin killed a Shardbearer to save Amaram's life, Amaram took the Shards for himself, murdered Kaladin's surviving squad members to eliminate witnesses, and branded Kaladin as a slave. This single act of betrayal broke Kaladin's faith in lighteyes and authority, becoming the defining trauma of his life. Amaram justified his theft as necessary for the greater good — he was secretly a member of the Sons of Honor, a group seeking to restore the Heralds and the old church hierarchy, and believed a Shardblade in his hands served a higher purpose. He later joined forces with Odium's side, bonded an Unmade, and was transformed into a crystalline monster before being killed. Amaram represents Sanderson's deepest critique: the man who does evil while convinced of his own righteousness.
Tall, broad-shouldered, and handsome in the classic Alethi mold — dark hair, tan skin, and a strong jaw. He wears gleaming Shardplate and carries himself with impeccable military bearing. Everything about his appearance projects nobility and virtue, which makes his corruption all the more bitter. His eyes carry the practiced warmth of a man skilled at wearing masks.
