Location from Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson
The bank in Chicago where everything started — where Steelheart appeared, Deathpoint killed, David's father bled a god, and a boy spent the next ten years building a plan from the memory.
The First Union Bank is the inciting location of the entire series. Young David was there with his father when Steelheart arrived. Deathpoint was already killing people. David's father grabbed a gun, shot at Deathpoint, and the bullet grazed Steelheart — making him bleed for the first and only known time. Steelheart killed everyone in the bank except David, who hid. The boy spent ten years turning that memory into a weapon. The bank is both a crime scene and a genesis point: everything the Reckoners do starts with what happened in this room.
A standard Chicago bank — or it was, before Steelheart turned it and everything around it to steel. Now it's a steel tomb, frozen in the moment of its transformation. The interior is chrome-bright and still, every surface reflecting light that never changes. Somewhere on one of those surfaces, there might still be a bloodstain that Steelheart couldn't completely erase.
