Obliteration

Character from Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

A teleporting, heat-absorbing religious fanatic who has already destroyed multiple cities and quotes scripture while doing it.

Obliteration is the series' embodiment of Epic destructive potential. He absorbs heat from his surroundings (freezing them), stores it, and can release it in city-leveling explosions. He's already destroyed Houston and several other cities. He considers himself a Horseman of the Apocalypse and selects targets based on his interpretation of biblical prophecy. His prime invincibility comes from danger-sense teleportation — he reflexively teleports away from any mortal threat before it reaches him. Combined with weak precognition, he's nearly impossible to assassinate. He claims to have overcome his weakness, though this is unverified. He serves Regalia in Babilar and continues as a threat in Calamity. He is patient, polite in conversation, and utterly sincere in his belief that he is cleansing the world. He will level a city and quote Ecclesiastes while the mushroom cloud rises.

Appearance

Lean, intense, sun-darkened skin despite spending time in darkened cities. Wears simple clothing that scorches at the edges. His body radiates visible heat haze. When he's fully charged, the air around him shimmers and nearby surfaces frost over as he absorbs their thermal energy. Quotes the Bible with the conviction of someone who believes he is doing God's work.
