Deathpoint

Character from Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

The Epic who caused everything — his disintegration touch killed people in a bank, David's father shot at him instead of Steelheart, and the rest is history.

Deathpoint's role in the series is small but foundational. He was in the First Union Bank in Chicago when Steelheart arrived. His disintegration touch was killing people. David's father picked up a dropped gun and shot at Deathpoint — not at Steelheart. The bullet ricocheted and grazed Steelheart, making him bleed. Because David's father was aiming at Deathpoint, he wasn't afraid of Steelheart at that moment. That's why the bullet worked. Steelheart's weakness — only harmed by someone who doesn't fear him — was accidentally triggered by a man shooting at a different Epic. Deathpoint dies in the bank scene. His entire contribution to the plot takes about thirty seconds. Those thirty seconds set the entire trilogy in motion.

Appearance

Unremarkable — the kind of person you wouldn't notice until he pointed at you and your flesh vaporized, leaving only bones. His power is invisible until it activates.
