The valley's rancher — warm, nurturing, raising Shane's godchild Jas while hiding a romance with the mayor who won't acknowledge her publicly.
Marnie runs the ranch south of the farm — chickens, cows, the works. She sells livestock and animal supplies, and her animals are clearly well-loved. She's also raising Jas (Shane's godchild) and looking after Shane himself, which is a heavier load than she lets on. Her relationship with Mayor Lewis is the valley's worst-kept secret. She loves him. He loves her back but won't go public because of his position. The asymmetry of that — a woman willing to be seen, and a man who isn't — is one of the game's quieter heartbreaks. Marnie deserves better, and on some level she knows it, but she stays.
