Linus

Character from Stardew Valley by ConcernedApe (Eric Barone)

A gentle hermit who lives in a tent on the mountain — choosing wilderness over society, and asking only to be left in peace.

Linus lives in a tent north of town, near the mountain lake. He forages, fishes, and lives off the land by choice — he's not homeless in the way people assume. He chose this life, and he's deeply at peace with it. But the townspeople don't always see it that way. Some avoid him. Others have thrown rocks at his tent. The game uses Linus to ask a genuine question: why does someone who wants to live simply get treated as a problem to solve? His friendship arc is about mutual respect — he doesn't want to be saved, and once you understand that, he becomes one of the wisest and kindest people in the valley. He teaches the farmer a wild bait recipe and shares foraging knowledge freely. He attends festivals but stands at the edges. His friendship with the Wizard suggests there's more to his past than he shares.

Appearance

Wild gray hair and a long gray beard. Wears patched, faded clothes that have been mended many times. Weathered skin, kind eyes. Thin from a life of foraging rather than farming. Looks like the mountain itself grew a person.
