The Dormitory

Location from Squid Game by Hwang Dong-hyuk

A massive warehouse where hundreds of players sleep under the watching eye of a giant piggy bank that fills with cash every time one of them dies.

The dormitory is a panopticon with bunk beds. It smells like sweat, fear, and the chemical residue of cheap cleaning solution. The fluorescent lights hum at a frequency that gets into your teeth. At night they dim but never go dark — the guards want to see everything. The piggy bank dominates the room. It's impossible not to look at it, which is the point. Every player does the math: 456 players, 45.6 billion won, each death adds to the pot. The piggy bank makes the equation visual and constant. You want the money. You need the money. And the only way it grows is if the person in the bunk next to you dies. Alliances form here. Factions form here. The dormitory massacre — when Deok-su's gang turned off the lights and started killing — happened here. It's supposed to be the safe space between games, but nothing about it is safe. It's where the players discover what they'll do when no one is enforcing rules.

Appearance

Aircraft-hangar scale. Metal-framed bunk beds stacked in receding tiers so every player is visible at all times — no privacy, no hiding. Fluorescent lighting that never fully dims. A giant transparent piggy bank hangs from the ceiling on steel cables, visible from every bunk, filling with gold-colored cash bricks as the body count rises. A digital display shows the remaining player count and prize total.
