Item from Squid Game by Hwang Dong-hyuk
Circle, triangle, square — three shapes on a black mask that erase identity and enforce hierarchy among the people who run the killing machine.
The masks serve two functions: anonymity and hierarchy. Guards are forbidden from removing their masks — violation means death. This strips their identity as completely as the tracksuit strips the players'. But where players are reduced to numbers, guards are reduced to shapes, and the shapes carry rank. Circles are workers — the lowest rank. They do menial labor, prepare games, and dispose of bodies. They are unarmed. Triangles are soldiers — armed with submachine guns, they execute players and enforce rules. They're the ones pulling triggers. Squares are managers — a handful of supervisors who oversee operations and serve as spokespeople during games. The Front Man wears a unique black angular mask above them all. The pink color of the jumpsuit was chosen for its association with childhood innocence — guards dressed like nursery walls, committing industrial-scale violence. The geometric shapes turn the guard hierarchy into a children's math lesson: circles, triangles, squares, each containing more angles, each holding more power.
Black face masks with a single geometric shape: circle (workers), triangle (soldiers), or square (managers). Worn with bright pink hooded jumpsuits, black gloves, and boots. The masks are featureless except for the shape — no eye holes visible from the outside, creating an inhuman appearance. The shapes correspond to the symbols on the business card.
