The Green Tracksuit

Item from Squid Game by Hwang Dong-hyuk

The player uniform — teal-green and numbered, erasing every marker of class, wealth, and identity until all you have left is a three-digit number.

The green tracksuit is the games' first act of violence — it strips away everything that marks you in the outside world. Your clothes, your watch, your jewelry, your wallet. A billionaire and a migrant worker wear the same uniform. A gangster and a pregnant woman are both just numbers. The show's use of the tracksuit is genius because it creates visual equality while the narrative reveals inequality. Everyone looks the same, but some players have alliances, information, physical advantages, or psychological tools that others don't. The tracksuit promises fairness. The games prove that promise is a lie. The green contrasts deliberately with the guards' pink jumpsuits — one color for the watched, one for the watchers. The numbered chest makes each player identifiable without being individual. You're not Seong Gi-hun in here. You're 456.

Appearance

Teal-green tracksuit with white trim — jacket and pants. A three-digit player number is printed in white on the left chest. Simple white slip-on shoes. The color is inspired by Korean school gym uniforms from the 1970s-80s. The fabric is cheap. The fit is one-size-fits-most.
