Berlint is a city of surfaces. The official version is a cultured, prosperous capital — opera, museums, prestigious schools, thriving commerce. The real version operates underneath: WISE agents in tobacco shops, Garden assassins in flower shops, SSS interrogation rooms behind government offices, and underground gambling dens behind respectable storefronts. The city's atmosphere shifts by district. Eden Academy's neighborhood is manicured and serene. The government quarter radiates cold authority. The commercial districts bustle with ordinary life that happens to be observed by three competing intelligence organizations. Everyone in Berlint is pretending to be something, which makes it the perfect home for the Forger family.
A dense urban grid of neatly arranged buildings blending historic pre-war architecture with newer utilitarian construction. Grand government buildings and cultural venues — an opera hall, art museum — share blocks with surveillance infrastructure. The streetscape is orderly and imposing, with wide boulevards designed for both civic pride and military parades. At night, the city takes on a noir quality — streetlamps casting long shadows, figures in overcoats moving between pools of light.
