Operation Strix

Item from Spy x Family by Tatsuya Endo

WISE's most critical long-term intelligence operation — a plan to prevent war by having the world's best spy befriend a reclusive politician through his child's school, which is exactly as absurd as it sounds.

Operation Strix is the engine that drives the entire series. WISE needs intelligence on Donovan Desmond's war plans, but Desmond is so reclusive that he only appears at Eden Academy's Imperial Scholar social events. The plan: Agent Twilight creates a fake family, enrolls a child at Eden Academy, earns enough Stella stars to reach Imperial Scholar status, attends the social events, and gets close enough to Desmond to assess his intentions. The beautiful absurdity is that this top-level intelligence operation depends on a five-year-old passing her spelling tests. Every domestic comedy scene — Yor burning dinner, Anya failing exams, Bond chewing furniture — has geopolitical stakes. The mission created the Forger family as a tool, but the family has become something Twilight might value more than the mission itself, and he hasn't figured out how to reconcile that yet.

Appearance

Not a physical object but a classified WISE mission file. Discussed in shadowed rooms, encrypted communications, and Twilight's internal monologue. The operation's name appears in WISE briefing documents and Handler's mission directives.

Also known as: Strix, The Mission, Project Strix
