A vast natural area fifty miles long outside Bikini Bottom where over four million jellyfish live — SpongeBob and Patrick's favorite destination and one of the few genuinely wild places near the city.
Jellyfish Fields is the place SpongeBob goes when he needs to be happy in a simple, uncomplicated way. He brings his net. Patrick brings his ignorance of what nets are for. They spend the afternoon chasing jellyfish, releasing them, and chasing them again. The fields are genuinely wild in ways Bikini Bottom is not. The jellyfish here are not background characters — they sting, they gather in dangerous formations, and certain varieties are specifically predatory. The Jellien leader once lived here. These things are treated as interesting rather than alarming.
Open, green-gray underwater meadows stretching into the distance — the further from Bikini Bottom, the more rural and untamed it feels. Jellyfish drift in loose formations throughout. The light filters down from above in shafts. There are clams in the grass, leeches, and poisonous sea urchins in the wilder sections. Two entrances bookend the fifty-mile stretch.
