Goo Lagoon

Location from SpongeBob SquarePants by Stephen Hillenburg / Nickelodeon

Bikini Bottom's beach — an underwater brine pool where sea creatures surf, tan, and socialize, and where Larry the Lobster serves as lifeguard with impeccable biceps.

Goo Lagoon is where Bikini Bottom goes to relax, which means it is also where Bikini Bottom goes to have problems outdoors instead of indoors. SpongeBob and Patrick jellyfish here. Larry lifeguards. Sandy has competed in extreme sports on these shores. Pearl holds social gatherings here. The brine pool physics mean you can actually swim in it — for underwater residents, the denser brine is what the ocean's surface would be for land creatures. The whole place operates on the logic that beaches are beaches, regardless of context.

Appearance

A large underwater beach of dense, darker brine water — the 'goo' is actually highly saline water that forms pools denser than the surrounding ocean. Sandy shores curve around the lagoon. Volleyball courts, lifeguard stands, a concessions area. The light here is somehow brighter than the rest of Bikini Bottom, as if the beach insists on being cheerful.
