A city built on desert salt flats in Nevada where everything angles wrong, the moon has too many teeth, and death is not a metaphor but an administrative department.
Death City is a real city that people live in, buy groceries in, and send their children to school in — it just happens that the school is Shibusen and death is a local governing principle rather than an abstract concept. The city has cafes, bookshops, students on motorcycles, and an observable soul economy running parallel to the human one. It is built in a desert basin that isolates it from the rest of Nevada geographically and metaphysically. Travelers find their way here when they're supposed to. The madness wavelength that leaked when Asura was freed has made the moon's grin slightly more pronounced and the shadows slightly more opinionated.
A sprawling city in black and white, built in a style that splits the difference between Victorian and expressionist — buildings lean, alleys spiral, windows are wider than they should be. The sun bakes everything flat during the day; at night the moon dominates the sky with its rictus grin. Shibusen sits above it all on its skull-shaped rock like an architectural punchline taken seriously.
