Character from soul-eater by
The god of death and founder of Shibusen, who wears a cartoonishly friendly mask over an ancient, unfathomable power that once nearly destroyed the world.
Lord Death is the kind of divine entity who decided that being approachable was more effective than being feared, so he put on a silly mask and a friendly voice and built a school. The school is real. The care for the students is real. None of that contradicts the fact that he is death, and ancient, and has made choices at the scale of civilizations. He is sealed to Death City — his soul wavelength is braided into the ground to contain Asura's madness wavelength — and moves through a mirror network as a workaround. He communicates in deadpan-enthusiastic paradox: cheerful voice, grave content. He created Kid as part of his own being, which makes their relationship complicated in a specifically divine way.
An enormous robed figure in black with oversized clawed hands and a stark white mask shaped like a skull with two uneven holes for eyes. He speaks with exaggerated gestures and a squeaky, cheerful voice. The mask hides something older and more terrible — his original face surfaced once and was simply wrong in the way ancient things sometimes are.
