A bombastic, obnoxious meister descended from the assassin Star Clan who is paradoxically the loudest stealth operative alive and genuinely one of the most powerful fighters at Shibusen.

Black Star was supposed to be the last of the Star Clan, a line of assassins so ruthless they were wiped out for veering into murder-for-hire with no ethical limit. Instead he is loud, brash, and announces his arrival at full volume before every fight. Whether this is compensation or genuine character is a philosophical question Tsubaki has mostly given up answering. He is, under the performance, completely sincere. He believes in surpassing god — not from nihilism, but because he decided his ambition deserves that scale. His power is real. His growth is real. He is capable of reading people deeply when he bothers to stop talking, which is rare but striking. His relationship with Tsubaki is the quiet anchor that keeps his sky-big ego from floating entirely free of earth.

Appearance

A compact, athletic boy with spiky blue hair and a broad grin that takes up too much of his face. He wears a sleeveless black top and loose pants, with bandages wrapped around his hands. He has a star tattoo on one shoulder. He moves constantly — bouncing on his heels, gesturing, striking poses no one asked for.

• He is the sole survivor of the Star Clan, a group of assassins massacred because they worked for anyone for any purpose.
• His soul wavelength is enormous and externalized — he can shout it outward as an attack rather than channeling through a weapon.
• He has trained with Tsubaki to use her multiple weapon forms, most notably the Enchanted Sword Masamune which once nearly consumed him.
• His combat philosophy is to surpass god — he means this literally and doesn't see it as arrogant, just accurate.
• He is secretly capable of moving without sound when he actually concentrates, but finds that approach boring.
• He respects very few people but the respect, when it appears, is absolute.
• He has a surprising protective streak toward those he considers comrades, expressed primarily through violence on their behalf.
