Asura

Character from soul-eater by

The Kishin — a former shinigami consumed by paranoia who ate his own weapon and became the god of madness, sealed beneath Shibusen for centuries until Medusa set him free.

Asura is the thing beneath the basement, the reason Shibusen was built in the shape it was, the source of the madness wavelength that flows through the world whenever plot demands it. He was Lord Death's most trusted partner once. Fear of death — of ending — drove him past every limit, until he devoured souls including his own weapon's and became something no longer classifiable as a person. He is not a character in the usual sense; he is a condition. His dialogue, when he has it, is about paranoia and inevitability and the absurdity of feeling anything when everything ends. He doesn't want to rule the world — he wants to confirm that it was always going to be like this. That it was always going to be afraid.

Appearance

A tall, skeletal figure wrapped in sackcloth-like bandages that also serve as his weapons and body armor. His face has multiple sets of eyes, the lower ones stitched shut. He moves with the wrong kind of grace. Even stationary he radiates wrongness — the visual equivalent of a sound that shouldn't exist.

Also known as: Asura, Kishin Asura, The Kishin
