Chun-nan is old. Not old like European cities are old — old like the mountains themselves, as if the village grew from the stone rather than being built on it. The traditions here predate written records. The elders speak of the Gaia cycle not as myth but as seasonal fact, the way farmers speak of planting and harvest. The Great Wall that stretches across the mountains was built, according to local tradition, not to keep out invaders but to mark the boundary between the waking world and what sleeps beneath it. The people of Chun-nan have always known about Dark Gaia. They just call it something different. Sonic racing along the Great Wall by day is one of the journey's most breathtaking moments. The Werehog climbing the same wall at night, hand over hand through the mist, is one of its most atmospheric.
