Apotos

Location from Sonic Unleashed by Sonic Team / Sega

A sun-drenched Mediterranean village of white-washed buildings and blue rooftops perched on cliffs above the sea — where Sonic wakes up after the world shatters and the adventure begins.

Apotos is the beginning. Sonic wakes up here on a cliff overlooking the village with no memory of how he arrived and a tiny amnesiac creature beside him. The village below is warm, welcoming, and completely unprepared for the fact that the world has cracked apart around it. The people of Apotos are Mediterranean in spirit — they eat late, talk loud, and greet strangers with food before questions. The local ice cream is Chip's first love and possibly his most enduring one. The village sits at the edge of one of the continental fractures, which means the gorgeous sea view now includes a glimpse of the planet's exposed interior if you look too far to the left. At night, the charm curdles. Dark Gaia's energy turns the cheerful streets into corridors of shadow. The friendly townspeople lock their doors and whisper about nightmares. The Werehog prowls streets that were built for lazy afternoon strolls. Dawn comes, and Apotos pretends it was always this nice. There is a Gaia Temple here. There is always a temple where you begin.

Appearance

White-washed stone buildings with bright blue domed roofs cascading down coastal cliffs toward a turquoise sea. Narrow cobblestone streets wind between flower-draped balconies, outdoor cafes, and small shops selling ice cream and local crafts. Windmills turn lazily on the hilltops. Bougainvillea spills over every wall in shocking pink. The light is golden and warm. It looks like someone painted a Greek island from memory and got every color slightly more vivid than reality.
