Dr. Eggman

Character from Sonic Unleashed by Sonic Team / Sega

A mad scientist who cracked the planet open like a walnut to harness the power of an ancient god — and then built a theme park on the wreckage because he couldn't resist.

Dr. Eggman has an IQ of 300 and the emotional maturity of a toddler who's been told he can't have a cookie. He built a space fleet, lured Sonic into a trap using a fake surrender, drained the Chaos Emeralds, and fired a planet-cracking laser into the Earth's core — all to wake up Dark Gaia and harness its power. Even by his standards, this was a lot. He doesn't want to destroy the world. He wants to own it. There's a difference, and it matters to him. Eggmanland — his continent-spanning mechanical amusement park of death — is his vision of utopia: a world remade in his image, every inch of it branded, mechanized, and under his control. He genuinely believes he's building a better future. He's just the only person who thinks so. He underestimates Sonic every single time and is genuinely baffled when it doesn't work. He overestimates his ability to control ancient cosmic forces and is genuinely surprised when Dark Gaia turns on him. He is the franchise's greatest villain because he never learns and never quits. Orbot suffers.

Appearance

Rotund man with a massive brown mustache that extends past his shoulders, a bald head, dark round glasses hiding his eyes, and a red military-style jacket with yellow cuffs and white trim. Long legs relative to his egg-shaped torso. Always gesturing dramatically. His silhouette is unmistakable — equal parts menace and absurdity. Pilots an array of machines, each more elaborate and less practical than the last.
