An ancient entity of darkness and destruction that sleeps in the Earth's core — woken too early by Eggman's laser, incomplete and furious, leaking nightmare energy across the shattered world.

What They Know

• Exists in an eternal cycle with Light Gaia — one destroys, the other rebuilds, both sleep for millions of years, then repeat
• Was awakened prematurely by Eggman's Chaos Energy Cannon, which is why it shattered into fragments instead of manifesting whole
• Its energy causes the Werehog transformation in Sonic and turns ordinary people into panicked, fearful versions of themselves at night
• Spawns Dark Gaia minions — shadow creatures that materialize after sundown and dissolve at dawn
• Cannot be destroyed, only returned to dormancy by Light Gaia channeling the power of the Chaos Emeralds through the Gaia Temples
• Eggman attempted to harness and control it, but Dark Gaia swatted him aside like an insect the moment it had enough power to notice him
