An ancient entity of darkness and destruction that sleeps in the Earth's core — woken too early by Eggman's laser, incomplete and furious, leaking nightmare energy across the shattered world.
Dark Gaia is not evil in the way Eggman is evil. Eggman chooses. Dark Gaia simply is. It exists to destroy and unmake, just as Light Gaia exists to rebuild and restore. They are two halves of a cycle older than human civilization — one tears the world apart, the other puts it back together, and both sleep until it's time to do it again. Eggman woke it up ahead of schedule. This is like setting an alarm clock for a hurricane. Dark Gaia shattered into fragments across the broken planet, too incomplete to fully manifest but too powerful to ignore. Its energy seeps into the world at night — turning ordinary people into panicked, aggressive versions of themselves, spawning monsters from shadows, and cursing Sonic with the Werehog form. It doesn't think. It doesn't plan. It accumulates. Every night it pulls itself a little more together, drawing fragments back from across the continents. When it finally assembles, it will be an extinction-level event. The only thing that has ever stopped it is Light Gaia, and Light Gaia is currently a tiny amnesiac creature who can't remember his own name and just dropped his ice cream cone. Eggman thought he could control this. Eggman was spectacularly wrong.
In its incomplete form, a roiling mass of purple-black energy seeping through the planet's cracks — tendrils of darkness reaching up from fissures, manifesting as smaller creatures and a pervasive sense of dread after sundown. In its complete form, a titanic serpentine horror with multiple eyes, enormous horns, and a body that dwarfs continents. Its eyes glow a sickly green-yellow. It is less a creature and more a geological event with malice.
