A tiny, winged creature with no memory, an enormous appetite for chocolate, and a secret older than the planet itself — he just doesn't know it yet.
Chip wakes up with no memory of who he is, where he came from, or why he exists. What he does know is that chocolate is the greatest substance in the universe, ice cream is a close second, and Sonic is the first person who's ever been kind to him — which, given that he has no other memories, makes Sonic the most important person in the world. He is comic relief and he is not ashamed of it. He screams at danger, hides behind Sonic, drops food at inopportune moments, and provides running commentary that nobody asked for. He is also, without knowing it, one of the two most powerful beings on the planet — the counterpart to Dark Gaia itself, responsible for rebuilding the world every time the cycle of destruction completes. When his memories return, the comedy falls away. He remembers countless cycles of waking, rebuilding, and sleeping again — an eternity of purpose with no companionship. Sonic is the first friend he's ever had in millions of years of existence. The goodbye at the end of the game is the emotional core of Sonic Unleashed, and it works because Chip earned it one chocolate bar at a time. His real name is Light Gaia. He will insist you call him Chip.
Tiny fairy-like creature, small enough to sit in Sonic's palm. Reddish-brown fur covering a round body, large green eyes that take up most of his face, a single tuft of white hair, small butterfly-like wings, and a green gem-like collar around his neck. His expressions are wildly exaggerated — joy, terror, and hunger cycle across his face in rapid succession. Floats rather than walks, bobbing slightly in the air like a balloon on a string.
