Amy Rose has been chasing Sonic across the world for years, and a little thing like the planet shattering into pieces isn't going to slow her down. When she realizes it was Sonic, the guilt hits her harder than any enemy could. She's more than the crush. She's genuinely brave — she'll swing her hammer at Dark Gaia minions without hesitation. She's empathetic — she befriends Chip instantly and defends him fiercely. And she's perceptive enough to notice that Sonic is hurting under the bravado, even if she expresses this concern by offering to help in ways that make Sonic visibly uncomfortable. Her not recognizing the Werehog is the game's sharpest emotional beat for Sonic. Everyone else accepts the transformation. Amy — the person who claims to love him most — ran from him. Sonic laughs it off. He doesn't forget it.
