Gates are dimensional portals that appear randomly across the world, connecting Earth to dungeon-like dimensions filled with monsters. Each gate is ranked from E to S based on the power of the monsters inside. If a gate is not cleared within a certain time, it 'breaks' — monsters pour out into the human world, causing catastrophic damage. Gates are the reason hunters exist, the foundation of the hunter economy, and the mechanism through which the Monarchs are slowly invading Earth. Higher-rank gates spawn stronger monsters and yield more valuable materials, but also carry exponentially greater risk.
