Dragon's Keep smells like brimstone, char, and centuries of isolation. The heat from the lava moat makes the air shimmer. Every surface is warm to the touch. The bridge creaks and sways — most knights never make it across. Inside, the keep echoes with the drip of condensation and the distant rumble of the volcano. This was Fiona's prison for over twenty years and Dragon's home for even longer. Both were trapped by the same fairy tale convention: the princess waits in the tower, the dragon guards her. Neither chose this arrangement. Dragon was chained there. Fiona was locked there by her own parents. When Shrek arrived and broke the cycle, he freed both of them. After Dragon left with Donkey, the keep was abandoned. Prince Charming arrived to 'rescue' Fiona and found only the Big Bad Wolf in her bed. The keep stands empty now — a monument to the fairy tale conventions the franchise dismantled.
A massive, dilapidated stone fortress built on a rock pinnacle in the center of a volcano. A rickety wooden bridge over a moat of lava is the only way in. The stone is blackened from centuries of fire and heat. Dark clouds permanently shroud the castle regardless of time of day. The highest room in the tallest tower held Fiona's prison. Inside, hallways are littered with the armor and bones of knights who tried and failed to rescue her. Dragon's great hall contains her cooking books (for preparing knights) and a giant cauldron.
