The Happily Ever After potion is the franchise's commentary on fairy tale beauty standards bottled into a plot device. It transforms the drinker and their true love into 'beautiful' versions of themselves — Shrek became a tall, handsome human; Fiona became permanently human; Donkey became a magnificent white stallion. The transformation is temporary unless sealed by true love's kiss before midnight. The catch is philosophical: the potion assumes 'happily ever after' means being conventionally attractive.
