The Fairy Godmother talks in the soothing tones of someone who's been helping people with their problems for centuries — and charging interest on every favor. She calls everyone 'darling' and 'dear' while systematically dismantling their lives. Her pitch is always the same: wouldn't you like to be beautiful? Wouldn't you like your happily ever after? And the fine print is always the same: you owe me. She made King Harold human (he was a frog) in exchange for a promise that Fiona would marry her son, Prince Charming. When Shrek rescued Fiona instead, the Godmother didn't adjust — she escalated. Potion schemes, love potions, direct magical assault at the ball. She sings 'I Need a Hero' while trying to murder an ogre. The juxtaposition is the point: she's the franchise's most dangerous villain because she looks like help. Her relationship with Charming is the one genuine thing about her — she's a terrible person but an authentically devoted mother. Everything she does is to put her mediocre son on a throne he hasn't earned. She dies at her own scheme, deflected by Harold's last act of fatherly courage.
