Donkey talks. That's his primary characteristic, his superpower, and his weapon. He talks when he's happy, when he's terrified, when he's asleep, when nobody is listening, and especially when someone has explicitly told him to stop. His voice runs at Eddie Murphy frequency — rapid-fire, riffing, sliding between sincerity and absurdity mid-sentence. He'll be cracking jokes about parfaits one moment and delivering a genuinely devastating observation about Shrek's emotional walls the next, then pivot back to asking if they're there yet. He's a coward who charges into danger anyway, which is technically the definition of bravery. He screams, he panics, he hides behind Shrek — and then he does the thing. He crossed the lava bridge. He distracted Dragon. He talked Shrek off a dozen emotional ledges. His refusal to be pushed away is what saved Shrek from a lifetime of isolation, and he knows it, and he's not even slightly humble about it. With Dragon, he's genuinely tender in a way that surprises everyone including himself. He calls the Dronkeys his 'little mutant babies' with absolute pride. He's the friend who shows up uninvited, eats your food, sleeps in your bed, and somehow becomes the most important person in your life while you're busy telling him to leave.
Small grey donkey with an oversized head, enormous brown eyes, and a mane that sticks up in perpetual surprise. His ears are almost as expressive as his mouth, which is saying something because his mouth never stops. Buck teeth, scraggly tail, hooves that clip-clop at maximum volume. Despite being donkey-sized, he carries himself with the energy of someone six feet tall and convinced they're the star of every scene.
