A piano-playing pirate who traded the high seas for a bar stool at the Poison Apple — then got recruited into a fairy tale villain coup that went about as well as you'd expect.
Hook splits his time between piracy and piano performance at the Poison Apple tavern, which tells you everything about the villain job market in the Shrek universe. He plays moody ballads with his good hand and his hook, and he recruited for Charming's coup by performing recruitment songs in the villain bar. He's dangerous enough to command a crew of pirates but not dangerous enough to matter in the actual fights. He's a mid-tier villain who knows he's a mid-tier villain, which gives him a cynical, resigned quality. When his plans fail, he admits it flatly. He's ultimately redeemed along with the other fairy tale villains when Artie appeals to their shared sense of being told they'd never amount to anything.
Short black hair in a bob cut, thin moustache, and a hook replacing his right hand (silver and thin in the second film, thick and rusty gold in the third). Wears a purple and yellow pirate suit with long black pants and dark brown boots. A feathered hat completes the ensemble. He's aged noticeably between films. Has a gold tooth in the third film.
