Jurda Parem

Item from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

The drug that could end the world — one dose amplifies Grisha power into something godlike, two doses create addiction, and withdrawal means madness and death.

Jurda parem was created by Bo Yul-Bayur and is the MacGuffin of the Six of Crows duology. It amplifies Grisha abilities by enhancing perception rather than raw power — but the amplification is so extreme that one dose turns a Heartrender into a mind-controller, a Tidemaker into someone who can phase through walls, and a Squaller into someone who can summon hurricanes. The price: extreme addiction from a single dose, madness and death from continued use. Nina survived but her powers changed permanently — she can no longer manipulate living bodies, only dead matter. An antidote was eventually created by Kuwei and David, but it requires more raw jurda than the parem itself. Every nation wants it. Controlling parem means controlling Grisha. The Ice Court heist was about preventing this.

Appearance
