Nockfell

Location from Sally Face by Steve Gabry (Portable Moose)

A small American town built around a lake with an ominous name — quiet on the surface, rotting underneath, founded on land where a Native American seer spoke a prophecy that created a centuries-old death cult.

Nockfell smells like wet leaves and old wood and something faintly sweet that nobody can identify. It's the kind of town people describe as 'quiet' when they mean 'nothing happens here,' except that things do happen — they just happen underground, behind church doors, and in apartments where the screaming is mistaken for bad plumbing. The town was established around 1623 when the Grey Tribe settled near Wendigo Lake. By 1663, Citlali Grey's prophecy had split the tribe and founded the Devourers of God. By 1887, the cult had built both the Phelps Ministry and Addison Apartments, embedding themselves in the town's infrastructure. Nockfell isn't haunted — it was built haunted, designed from the ground up as a staging area for something cosmic and terrible.

Appearance

A rural town in the American heartland, the kind with one main street, a few churches, and trees that grow too close to the buildings. The architecture is aging — clapboard houses, cracked sidewalks, streetlights that buzz too loud. Everything looks slightly overcast even on sunny days, as if the town exists under its own personal weather system.
