The basement apartment is where the investigations begin. Being below ground, it's closest to the temple — which makes it both the most dangerous apartment and the best positioned for detecting what's below. Larry chose this as a feature, not a bug. The apartment has an energy that's entirely Larry: creative, chaotic, warm despite being underground. It smells like turpentine and Lisa's cooking and the faint ozone of the police scanner. Sal spends almost as much time here as in his own apartment.
A basement-level apartment with no natural light, compensated by warm lamps and the glow of multiple screens. Larry's room is wallpapered with metal band posters, sketches, and conspiracy theory printouts. Art supplies cover every horizontal surface. A police scanner sits on the desk, its antenna later cannibalized for the Super Gear Boy. Lisa's side of the apartment is cleaner, warmer, with the practical organization of someone who maintains the building for a living.
