The Temple

Location from Sally Face by Steve Gabry (Portable Moose)

The Devourers of God's ancient ritual space — buried beneath Addison Apartments, connected to the Phelps Ministry, and serving as the Red-Eyed Demon's anchor point in the physical world.

The temple is the source of everything wrong with Addison Apartments and, by extension, Nockfell. Built before the apartments, before the Phelps Ministry, possibly before the town itself, it sits on a thin place between the physical world and the Void — a natural weak point in dimensional barriers that the Devourers of God have exploited for centuries. The parasitic growth that infects the building originates here, spreading upward through the infrastructure like roots reaching for sunlight. The cult conducted their rituals in this space, summoning and binding the Red-Eyed Demon, processing their human sacrifices, and maintaining the connection between worlds. Ash fell into this space through Mrs. Packerton's trash chute — a moment of literal descent from the mundane horror of human-meat bologna into the cosmic horror that produces it. The temple is where the game stops pretending this is a mystery and admits it's an apocalypse.

Appearance

A vast underground chamber carved from dark stone, older than the building above it, older than the town. Ritual circles are etched into the floor in patterns that hurt to look at too long. Organic growth — the same parasitic tissue that threads through the building — covers the walls in pulsing, vein-like patterns. An altar stands at the center, stained with substances that aren't all blood. The ceiling is lost in shadow. The space is much larger than it should be, as if the underground geometry doesn't follow the rules of the surface.
