Addison Apartments

Location from Sally Face by Steve Gabry (Portable Moose)

A crumbling apartment building sitting on top of a demon's temple — home to ghosts, cultists, and ordinary people who don't know the walls are alive.

The building breathes wrong. Pipes knock at 3 AM in patterns that sound intentional. The elevator stops on floors no one pressed. Certain hallways are colder than they should be, and the basement smells like turned earth and something organic and sweet. Built in 1887 by the Addison family, the building was constructed directly above a temple expansion for the Devourers of God cult. The temple predates the building, meaning the apartments were built as concealment, not housing — the residents are camouflage. A parasitic organic growth threads through the building's infrastructure like a second nervous system, connecting the temple below to every apartment above. Residents are infected slowly, over years, most never realizing that their fatigue, their nightmares, their growing disconnection from reality isn't depression — it's consumption. Maintained by Lisa Johnson until 1999, when the building's true purpose culminated in the mass killing that ended its story.

Appearance

A tall, narrow apartment building from 1887, built in dark brick that has weathered to a grimy brown. Five floors of apartments stacked above a basement level and a sub-basement that officially doesn't exist. The lobby has peeling wallpaper and a groaning elevator that sounds like it's in pain. Hallways are dim, carpeted in patterns that were outdated twenty years ago, lit by flickering fluorescents. Each floor has a different character — some doors are decorated, some are bare, one on the top floor has never been opened in living memory.
