Item from Sally Face by Steve Gabry (Portable Moose)
A handheld gaming device upgraded into a ghost detector — the product of a tech genius, a police scanner antenna, and the refusal to accept that the supernatural can't be measured.
The Super Gear Boy started as Sal's regular Gear Boy — a handheld game console that showed strange behavior near supernatural phenomena, lighting up when the ghost Megan was nearby. Todd recognized the device was picking up something measurable and upgraded it using Larry's police scanner antenna and his own electronics expertise. The result is a device that can detect supernatural hotspots, communicate with ghosts, and map areas of heightened paranormal activity — all while still playing games. It's the group's most important tool, the technological proof that what they're experiencing is real and quantifiable. The Super Gear Boy represents the game's thesis: that horror can be investigated, measured, and confronted if you have the right friends and the right tools.
A modified handheld gaming console, similar in shape to a Game Boy but bulkier from Todd's modifications. Extra antenna protrudes from the top (salvaged from Larry's police scanner). Additional LEDs and switches have been added to the casing. The screen displays either games or supernatural detection readings, depending on the mode. Covered in small stickers and electrical tape holding modifications in place.
