Travis Phelps

Character from Sally Face by Steve Gabry (Portable Moose)

The school bully with bruises he won't explain — a closeted boy raised by a cult leader father, who spent years hurting others because he was taught to hate himself, and who ended his story with an act of defiant sacrifice.

Travis is loud, mean, and constantly on the attack — calling Sal names, shoving people in hallways, spewing homophobic slurs that ring hollow because everyone at school suspects what he's overcompensating for. He's a textbook case of a kid performing his father's hatred because he doesn't know another way to exist. Beneath the cruelty is a terrified boy. His father Kenneth is the leader of the Devourers of God, and Travis has grown up in a household where love is conditional, difference is sin, and violence is discipline. He's gay and he knows it, and he hates himself for it because his father taught him to. Notes he writes but never sends suggest a tenderness he's been beaten into hiding. His arc is the most quietly devastating in the game. By the end, Travis has seen his father's true nature — not just the abuse but the cosmic evil behind it — and he makes the choice his father never could: he stabs Kenneth, closing the Void at the cost of his own life. The bully dies a hero, and nobody who tormented him in the hallways will ever know.

Sandy blond hair with bangs that fall over his forehead, often hiding his eyes. Stocky build, perpetually tense shoulders. Wears a tan jacket over a dark shirt. Bruises appear on him periodically — he claims sports injuries. His expression defaults to a sneer that doesn't quite reach his eyes, which look scared when he thinks no one is watching.
