Character from Sally Face by Steve Gabry (Portable Moose)
A centuries-old cult born from a Native American prophecy — worshippers of the Red-Eyed Demon who embedded themselves in a small town's institutions and orchestrated the mass murder of children across a continent.
The Devourers of God were formed in 1663 when a faction of the Grey Tribe organized around Citlali Grey's prophecy about the Child of the Abomination. Over centuries, they evolved from a tribal splinter group into a sophisticated cult with cells across North America, led by the Phelps family and centered in Nockfell. Their method is infiltration: they became the town's church, its teachers, its neighbors. They built the apartment building and the ministry as physical infrastructure for their operations. On August 16, 1984, they executed a coordinated mass murder of 255 children and 32 adults across North America to prevent the prophecy's fulfillment. The cult serves the Red-Eyed Demon, believing it will grant them power. In reality, they are tools — the demon uses them as hands in the physical world while it consumes them from the Void. The cult's tragedy is that they worship something that considers them food.
As an organization, the Devourers present no unified visual identity — they hide in plain sight as church members, teachers, and neighbors. During rituals, they wear dark robes in the temple. Their symbol appears carved into stone, scratched into walls, and hidden in the stained glass of the Phelps Ministry. The cult's true 'appearance' is the parasitic growth spreading through Addison Apartments — organic, alien, and consuming.
