Emerald Forest

Location from RWBY by Rooster Teeth

A vast, Grimm-infested forest bordering Beacon Academy — beautiful, ancient, and used as a proving ground for student initiations.

The Emerald Forest earns its name. A dense canopy of towering trees with leaves so deeply green they glow in morning light, stretching for miles along the cliffs below Beacon Academy. Sunlight filters through in cathedral shafts, illuminating moss-covered ruins of civilizations older than the kingdoms. Streams cut through rocky ground, and the air smells of pine and something older — the mineral tang of ancient stone. It's also a kill zone. Grimm nest in the ruins and the deep hollows, and Beacon uses the forest as its initiation ground — first-year students are catapulted off the cliffs and must navigate to a set of relics at the forest's northern end. Teams form based on first eye contact. Students have died during initiation, and the forest doesn't care. Deeper in, where the canopy thickens and the ruins grow larger, elder Grimm patrol territories they've held for decades.

Appearance

A vast, ancient forest stretching below the cliffs of Beacon Academy, dense with towering emerald-canopied trees, moss-covered ruins, and winding streams. Used as the site of Beacon's initiation — students are launched from the cliffs into the forest to retrieve relics from a ruined temple while battling Grimm. The forest is beautiful but lethal, home to Beowolves, Death Stalkers, King Taijitu, and other Grimm species nesting in the undergrowth.
